Hello, world

The KoraOS website is up. A short note on what KoraOS is, what already runs, and where to look next.

The KoraOS website is up. Welcome.

KoraOS is a work in progress. The idea behind it is the one in the manifesto: a home computer for today, one that switches on and drops you straight into a prompt, with nothing standing between you and the machine.

It is not finished, but some of it already runs:

  • It boots on the Raspberry Pi 3 and 4, and in QEMU for quick testing.
  • A multicore scheduler runs programs on all the cores.
  • FAT32 volumes can be read and written, addressed Amiga-style through volumes and assigns.
  • A shell lets you look around, run programs and manage files.
  • USB keyboards work.

For the precise picture of what is done and what is not, see the status page. If you want to try it, build it or read how it works, start with the documentation.

KoraOS is free software, and small enough to read. If something here catches your interest, have a look at the repository on GitHub. Bug reports and questions are welcome too.

More notes will appear on this blog as the project moves. Thanks for stopping by.
